Digital Information for All

At the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Tunis, some Ministries and organisations will display best practice solutions made in Austria. As an integral part of the Austrian e-content Village, Bene’s Coffice Interactive facilitates a convenient display of innovative e-content.

Digital information on the World Wide Web has revolutionised the economy. Real-time data travels distances at a speed unthinkable of until just a short time ago. In theory, everybody can obtain all the information he or she requires at any time. But the truth is that very few people actually have access to the host of information and diverse options to communicate over the Internet. Especially developing countries are rather slow in catching up with contemporary standards. A frequent problem consists of the access to quality content that might change people’s lives - rather than a lack of computers.

While our global economy focuses on technological production, little priority is given to access to digital information for less affluent countries.

The UN World Summit on the Information Society aims to provide all people worldwide with access to quality digital information by helping them overcome the digital divide and bridge the content gap. Tunis will be a venue for heads of state, UN delegates, global corporate managers, civil society and media makers to take control of developments in information society.

From November 15 to 19, 2005, the summit will be accompanied by an "ICT4all Exhibition" with best-practice presentations, workshops, content forums and networking events indicating ways to reach that goal.

Austria’s presentation will underscore that initiatives may originate both from the public and private sectors.

The Austrian e-Content Village
– a 120 square metre exhibition floor reflecting the "global village" idea – will provide a forum to Austrian Ministries and companies: The International Centre for New Media (ICNM) will represent Austria as a small country excelling with innovative, content-rich new media solutions for worldwide applicability. Bene Coffice Interactive will be an integral part of this Austrian e-content Village in displaying all the innovative e-content.

Other important projects by ICNM are the EUROPRIX Top Talent Award (TTA) and the Austrian Multimedia & e-Business state prize. Both the World Summit Award and the TTA will be presented in the Austrian e-Content Village. ICNM’s honorary president is Prof. Peter A. Bruck, who heads Research Studios Austria at ARC Seibersdorf Research GmbH.
