London’s hotly anticipated design event – Clerkenwell Design Week

Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) – London’s premier celebration of design – returns with aplomb following its hugely successful 2010 inauguration, sponsored this year by Jaguar. The three-day festival takes place from 24 to 26 May 2011 and brings together a varied and vibrant programme of events spanning debates, discussions, presentations, exhibitions, installations, street parties and workshops all in the name of celebrating and embracing design.

Clerkenwell has long been regarded as the creative hub of the UK. A stone’s throw from the city, it is home to a plethora of new media agencies, graphic and interactive design studios, more than 200 architectural practices (more per square mile than anywhere else on the planet) and is home to over 60 international design brands.

Showcasing the latest product and furniture design innovations from over 50 British and international manufacturers – CDW crucially offers the unrivalled opportunity to see many world launches of new furniture and interior accessories. For many companies it’s also the first opportunity to see products that were launched at the Milan furniture fair in April.

Knowledge Workers

Knowledge Workers

Bene invites to a Masterclass on the influence of knowledge workers upon workplace design held by Prof. Jeremy Myerson. Jeremy is a writer, editor and academic specialising in the study of the work of designers in relation to social and technological change.

48% of the UK’s working population can be classified as a knowledge worker, but who are these people? In order to be able to design environments that better support this type of work it is necessary to understand the different groups that make up this statistic. Through interviews and workshops Prof. Jeremy Myerson and his team identified four ‘knowledge worker typologies’ in the UK.

The Masterclass takes place on Thursday 26th of May 2011 at the Bene showroom, 47-53 St John Street, London, EC1M 4AN.

Northern Delights @ B-Loose

As part of Clerkenwell Design Week, B-Loose offers the chance to discover the Scandinavian world of design.

B-Loose has teamed up with leading Danish manufacturer The Republic of Fritz Hansen to showcase the new FAVN sofa, designed in collaboration with Spanish designer Jaime Hayon. The FAVN has just been launched at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2011 in Milan. FAVN is the result of an experimental dialogue and presents an honest interpretation of Fritz Hansen's design values. It represents a true reflection of Fritz Hansen's ambition to achieve sustainable quality in crafting timeless design.

Also showcasing will be some innovative concepts from another B-Loose partner, Blå Station. This company‘s creative approach to making full use of the unique properties of available materials has given birth to such outstanding products as the Peekaboo chair.

The third partner of this Scandinavian showcase is lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen who will be exhibiting their new OJ family, designed by Ole Jensen, as well as their famous AJ lamp, designed by Arne Jacobsen – a true design classic.
