HHS Planer + Architekten
Concepts with a holistic approach

For more than 20 years, architectural associates Hegger, Hegger und Schleiff have demonstrated their expertise in finding and implementing superb solutions for architecture in public spaces. They have been awarded numerous prizes and have impressed with their consistent approach.

They are still based in Kassel, where they started out in 1980. When Manfred Hegger, Doris Hegger-Luhnen and Günther Schleiff joined forces, their common direction was clear from the outset: Analysis, design formulation and planning, the keys to successful building work; architecture that respects its environment; solutions which grow in order to meet requirements .
HHS's activities are thus diverse and diversified. Their work profile ranges from building design, urban development planning, basic planning and programming to research and development.
The HHS portfolio includes housing and commercial projects, office buildings and production sites, schools and other institutions of learning, hotels and conference buildings, shopping centres, libraries, laboratory buildings, power plants, theatres and concert halls, bridges, trade fair buildings, furniture, illumination and projects in urban space. Their largest ongoing project is a research centre which includes a laboratory and auditorium wing; the smallest project is an organ front.

Their work is not limited to the design of urban space, buildings or whatever facilities. Activities also include the programming of new and existing buildings, structural concepts for specific uses as well as institutions, the management of planning processes, competitions as well as their own research projects.

Cooperation Network
The main office in Kassel moved into its own building in 1996. The building itself represents a research project focusing on energy-saving and solar-powered construction; it was even subsidised by the German Ministry of Education and Science.

The office features a modern network of 30 high-capacity computer workplaces for 2D and 3D project management as well as visualisation and data rendering.
Cooperation with colleagues, with landscape architects and engineers at home and abroad is daily routine. In many cases the cooperation has existed for many years and takes the form of actual partnerships for some of the projects.

Clear benefit to owners and users
HHS bases its philosophy on the following premise: a thoroughly planned and detailed formulation of tasks in close coordination with the project owners. Based on this premise, the successful implementation of a project is further supported by feasibility studies and urban studies. A building assignment begins with the programming phase. Gradually the project takes shape in terms of size, function, structure and solution. The feasibility of a building plan is put to a strict test.
The next step is to set goals in close communication with owners and users. Layout studies form the basis of requirements placed on area and space. Space requirements and qualities are then defined, costs identified or programmes adapted to budgets. All of this helps to make each and every structure economical and sustainable.

HHS have reaped the fruits of their endeavours. In addition to their economic growth and continuity in business, they have been awarded numerous prizes in recognition of their work, both in terms of content and public acceptance.
It was only in 2001 that HHS was awarded the German Fassadenpreis 2001 for their Nikolaisaal project in Potsdam. Their Mont-Cenis Academy project in Herne, Germany, received honourable mention in the International Ligna Award.
