Helmut-List-Halle

Architect: Markus Pernthaler
Sales Office: Bene Graz

Fashioned from an old industrial warehouse, the Helmut List Hall in Graz today plays host to a plethora of events, from classical music to rock and pop concerts, not to mention conferences. Accordingly, the criteria this hall had to meet in terms of flexibility, not to mention the acoustics and aesthetics of its interior design, were quite demanding. Once again Bene was able to put its talent as a one-stop-shop for interior design on display.

The hall was built in just ten months by Markus Pernthaler, an architect from Graz, who enlisted the expertise of the Munich-based acoustic specialist Prof. Karl-Heinz Müller, as well as the famous conductor Nicolas Harnoncourt, and other well-known musicians and composers, to name just a few.

The Comforto System X-66 was selected as the chair of choice for audience seating. This chair allows a nearly unlimited number of various configurations and provides seating for up to 1,200 people at full capacity, while keeping the time needed to change seating configurations to a minimum. This lightweight and stackable chair can be wheeled in and out of the hall quickly and easily in order to make room for up to 2,000 at pop concerts.

In addition, these chairs had to go above and beyond their usual seating duties: In order to boost the interior acoustics, the optimal fabric coverings and upholstery were selected with the help of an expert noise insulation study. And in compliance with the safety regulations, an anti-panic system had to be developed to prevent the chairs from tipping over. All of these challenges were met and overcome thanks to the joint teamwork between the Helmut List Hall’s technicians, Comforto and Bene.

Bene products were also used to outfit the cafeteria and the wardrobes. All in all, it is no understatement to say that the Helmut List Hall is a successful fusion of art, science, technology and culture. Va bene!
