Building block of happiness
The work environment is in a state of upheaval, constantly networked in streams of communication and knowledge transfer. That’s stressful. Thankfully, there is furniture that defuses this stress by giving everyone the space they need: for storage, deep breathing, quiet privacy and exchange with others. The RM Room Module is the perfect dividing wall system for the media age. Its core is an aluminium frame that can be used in several ways, from a screen to a stylish room divider to a shelf with an integrated workstation.Happy employees are the most sustainable investment for every company, because happy people make everything better. And offices can also make people happy if they are built to make sure nothing gets in the way, so that when you swing your legs you don’t collide with cables. Everything that you need is within reach, and there are zones in which you can concentrate, work, and openly relax. It can also be easier to have fun and be pleasant. People need breaks.
Fine-tuning the workplace
The everyday life of networked knowledge workers is already complicated enough. It’s enough to keep your balance and stay grounded as you bounce between the Internet, videoconferences, various manifestations of Web 2.0, files, mountains of paper, piles of newspapers, and printer and copier stations. An overabundance of information, learning, reading, listening and experience needs to be winnowed down, communicated in a measured way, and productively processed.
People don’t have to stand – or sit – with their backs to the wall; offices can be equipped for the media age, too. The demands on the workplace are as diverse and complex as different forms of communication. They go far beyond the frame of the desk: versatility is the trump card, and different spaces are required for different situations. Many things that we often perceive only at a sub-conscious level can be irritating: too much transparency, distracting noises, too restricted a view, too little private space, poor lighting, the whole everyday chaos. Everyone works differently and has different understandings of happiness.
Wall system of the future
With the RM Room Module, Bene has developed an interior design tool that oscillates between a dividing wall and a shelf, offering users the greatest possible latitude in design. Basically, it is a thin, load-bearing aluminium frame with integrated cable management that can be equipped with a broad array of office furniture. The RM Room Module can be built from the flat screen up and can be fitted on two sides with several functionalities and different surfaces. They can convey corporate identity, absorb sound, be transparent or closed. Free-standing, self-supporting, up to 2.11 metres tall, the RM Room Module can partition large open spaces, create niches and fulfil a wide array of other functions.
Because the slim screen is a chameleon. You can upgrade it to a wall unit with docked workstations for individuals or groups, to a library, to a simple bar for informal meetings, breaks, and other purposes. The design is simple, functional, and above all versatile. "The RM Room Module is the wall system of the future," says designer Johannes Scherr. "It allows you to create a very space-efficient room-in-room situation with a wall system in an open office." It could be the building block of happiness.
