EMERGENCY & RISK MANAGEMENT |

Occupational health & safety and environmental protection are closely related. High safety standards in the factory reduce environmental hazards. This is the reason the entire area of emergency planning and prevention of hazards is included in quality and environment management. The risk of fire is taken seriously at Bene. Preventative fire protection makes an important contribution to workplace safety and environmental protection. In addition to the automatic fire detection and extinguisher systems that are installed, our in-house fire-fighters are also a primary factor in containing and preventing large fires. Liquids hazardous to water are only stored in the appropriate VbF (German regulation for inflammable liquids) storage rooms and are only used in production processes over collecting trays. This avoids the risk that these materials will enter the sewage system or the groundwater. In 2006 and 2007 a further step was taken to improve workplace safety by implementing the regulation concerning potentially explosive atmospheres, VEXAT, (Federal Law Gazette 309/2004) at Bene AG’s Austrian sites. Every employee receives training from his/her superior in how to deal with emergency situations. Safety specialists, fire protection appointees, first-aiders, safety representatives, occupational health physicians and the in-house fire-fighters form a well-rehearsed team. The in-house fire-fighters are currently made up of over 30 on-site workers who prepare for all possible emergency situations with regular disaster drills. Those also working as fire-fighters in their private time are able to leave their workplaces at any time to help. In the event of damage, all of these people, in collaboration with external workers, are available immediately to prevent potential environmental harm. |
