The publisher, Hubert Burda, believes transparency encourages communication.
This is the idea behind Burda Medienpark, finished in June 2001.
A spacious, glazed structure, the new building for the publishing house home office in Offenburg provides an attractive work place for approximately 540 employees from different editorial departments.
Bene’s professional furnishing concept, Compact Office, has created a modern officescape that supports the flow of information and creates intelligent synergies.
The well thought-out office plan was able to effectively respond to this architectural objective by creating interaction through transparency, connection through open spaces, unrestricted visual relationships, short distances and spontaneous conversations between editorial, layout and production staff.
Compact Office Implementation: Over 50 meter long wings house roomy open-plan offices of imposing height.
Five storeys, connected by steel stairways, are stacked one on top of the other in gallery levels.
Gigantic windows flood the rooms of the two longer sides with daylight.
Two rows of slender columns run the length of the offices dividing the space up into three open units with a central hall lined on the right and left by working areas.
Additionally, a small number of fully glazed individual offices are placed throughout each level of the building.
K line tables and cabinets in the Medienpark set standards for New Work with clarity and ease in the language of form, with intelligence and sensibility in the functions.
Elliptically shaped table edges protect from injuries; foot-racks, that can be adjusted in height without tools, assure ergonomic individuality; slanted feet of round steel pipe give the desks a nice look and, at the same time, assure enough legroom; castors provide mobility.
Safe and invisible, the horizontal cable ducts, that can be opened, contain cables for modern media.
And, the design of the aluminium coloured shuttered rolling cabinets address their principal purpose - to create storage space.
Thanks to exceptionally flat wall elements, the inside of the K cabinets are particularly spacious allowing for more storage in the same amount of space, and leaving more open space for the employees both inside as well as out.
