The world's largest design fair took place between 4–9 April: the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Major brands and up-and-coming international designers presented the trends of tomorrow. PIXEL by Bene obviously had to take part.
The Salone Internazionale del Mobile has been the centrepiece of the international scene every spring for 56 years now. Around 2,000 companies presented the latest design trends over approx. 200,000 m2 of exhibition space. More than 3,000 visitors came in search of inspiration this year. The six days also included around 1,300 different events. The Salone Ufficio takes place every two years as part of the Salone Internazionale. This year’s "International Biennial Workspace Exhibition", originally established in 1982, was devoted to the theme "Workplace 3.0". Around 120 exhibitors presented their solutions for the working environment over approx. 10,000 m2 of exhibition space.
In the beginning the Salone Ufficio was the flagship event for major Italian furniture brands. During its early years the Salone Internazionale sought mainly to introduce Italian furniture and Italian design to a broader audience. Gradually, an increasing number of international brands has joined the exhibitors and the Salone has become a hotspot for international design. Apart from Italian brands such as Unifor, Arper, and Cappellini, this year's show saw not only brands like Novy Styl, Sedus, Bolon, and Walter Knoll but was also particularly well represented by firms from Spain, France, and Scandinavia.
Workplace 3.0 is thought of as a think tank by the organisers and aims to identify and understand changes to the workplace. Aside from changes to individual products, there will also be changes to the way in which work and the workplace come to be interpreted. Not only cities, but also offices continue to be referred to as "smart". However, it would be an oversimplification to understand this as referring only to technological change. According to Salone Ufficio, "smart" represents a new quality of life – a modern humanism in which the focus is firmly on the individual as the active protagonist. Merely providing space for individual work and discussions is no longer adequate under this concept.Th e new workplace is defined as an adaptive organism. It is less rigid and is capable of adapting to users' needs. The designer becomes the facilitator for the individual's needs. The aim is to achieve spaces that are finished yet incomplete, that are durable and adaptive.
PIXEL, the latest member of the Bene family of products, was also showcased at the Salone Ufficio and is a perfect fit for this new conception of the office. PIXEL lets you design rooms according to your needs - the PIXEL Box can be turned into a table, a bench, or a podium. Whether for a traditional meeting or a creative workshop, for a presentation or for development,PIXEL opens up new dimensions for collaboration and teamwork. An entirely new and dynamic form of meeting culture emerges through the unconventional do-it-yourself approach. Flexibility, candour, and teamwork take centre stage.
Visitors to the Milan exhibition stand were thrilled by the PIXEL concept - after all, PIXEL is just as smart as the modern workplace needs it to be.
