The Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC) is responsible for the central control of Lufthansa's global flight operations to and from Frankfurt. At the home hub in Frankfurt, the IOCC coordinates the deployment of around 200 stationed aircraft. A central area of responsibility is the efficient control and optimisation of passenger flows at Frankfurt Airport. In addition, the IOCC monitors the ground handling processes and makes operational decisions to ensure that everything runs smoothly. In the event of operational irregularities, the IOCC is responsible for coordinating all guest care measures - with the aim of minimising the impact on passengers.
The enormous size of the IOCC (2,550 m² / 160 workstations) required well thought-out planning of the factors acoustics, light, ergonomics and room climate. What was needed was an open space solution that would offer a first-class working environment with a great atmosphere - around the clock, with high density and space efficiency.
Due to the 24-hour operation, several employees share one workstation. The personal lockers provide space for personal storage for the 160 employees per shift.
Implementing an operations control centre for an airline in time, in scope and below budget requires what we have found at Bene: Solution expertise with passion. I am delighted that with Bene I had a partner in the project on whom I could rely 100%.
Dr Christian Pöselt, Head of Project Future Operations Control
Quality and functionality were central to the workstations. They had to utilise the economic efficiency of an open space and at the same time be functional and ergonomically high-quality. With T-Lift Desks, height-adjustable tables and the CUBE_S workstation system, solutions were found that offer particular advantages in open-plan areas. The modular CUBE_S system makes it possible to be space-efficient while still offering employees well-protected, individual workstations.
With the NOOXS wall system, Bene created an intelligent room organisation in the open space that also has a sound-absorbing effect. Two think tanks offer employees the opportunity to retreat and provide acoustic shielding.
