The identity of COOMO

An interview with Form Us With Love

COOMO is more than just a modular piece of furniture, it is a statement for timeless design, emotional spaces and responsible design. In this interview, the designers from Form Us With Love provide an insight into the creation and identity of the system and talk about design language, sustainability and the vision of a furniture concept that adapts flexibly to people and spaces.

What gives COOMO its characteristic identity?

Our goal was to develop a furniture system that is not only functional but also emotionally engaging. Rather than following the fast-moving trends of the furniture industry, we deliberately created a future-proof system that is durable and adaptable.
Soft, cloud-like volumes define COOMO’s design language and create an inviting, organic presence in space. The elements are intended to connect effortlessly with one another—both physically and in their spatial impact—conveying comfort and playfulness at the same time. This balance between playful modularity and a sensual formal language gives COOMO its identity.

COOMO avoids adhesives and uses a layered construction. Can you explain why and how materials were selected to minimize environmental impact?

From the very beginning, we set strict ecological and design goals. Of course, this depends on many parameters, such as material flows, price levels, existing distribution channels, customers, and so on.
COOMO’s modular, layered construction is designed to facilitate renewal and repair. By avoiding adhesives and instead using mechanical connections and stackable structures, we reduce material waste and create a system that can be easily disassembled and recycled at the end of its life cycle. In addition, material choices—such as recycled or recyclable plastics—as well as removable covers play a crucial role in minimizing environmental impact and extending the product’s lifespan.

Can COOMO be described as a sustainable product?

Sustainability is not a single item on a checklist, but a spectrum of decisions made throughout a product’s entire life cycle. In this sense, COOMO represents a significant step toward sustainability: it combines recycled materials, modular upgradability, and a construction designed for longevity.
Achieving complete sustainability is very difficult, but we see COOMO as a systemic example of how design, material efficiency, reparability, and timeless relevance can be brought together.

What were the biggest challenges in developing COOMO?

The collaboration between Form Us With Love and Bene was characterized by intensive exchange, through which we learned a great deal together. The challenge was to reconcile our high design and sustainability ambitions with technical and economic constraints. At the same time, we wanted to ensure that the product is both relevant today and timelessly future-proof—an expectation that is particularly demanding in any modular concept.

How does COOMO influence the atmosphere in work or public spaces?

COOMO was designed as a product that not only serves a functional purpose but also shapes spaces emotionally. In dynamic work environments, it can act as a lively meeting point where people exchange ideas, connect, and foster creative thinking. At the same time, the system offers calm, comfortable islands of relaxation—places for contemplation and retreat. This dual effect makes COOMO especially versatile and suitable for a wide range of contexts.

How do you see COOMO evolving in the future?

We deliberately designed COOMO as an open, reconfigurable system—a “playground of modularity.” This makes it ready to respond to users’ needs, whether through new modules, additional functions, or innovative adaptations to changing work and living patterns. The journey has only just begun, and we look forward to discovering new ways together with users to shape and experience spaces.
