With the opening of the new Learning & Innovation Centre (LIC), the Vrije Universiteit Brussel gained a modern, light-filled learning environment that combines openness and flexibility. The university chose Bene to provide the right furnishing solutions to blend harmoniously into the clear architectural design and create an atmosphere that equally supports interaction, focus, and collaboration. Soft colours, warm materials, and precise zoning create spaces that function intuitively and enable a wide range of use.
In the open learning landscapes, the Dockland Dock-In Bays provide quiet islands for focused work. They integrate seamlessly into the openness of the LIC while still offering clear retreat options. The DELTA Meeting tables are suitable for both collaborative and individual work. Positioned in bright campus areas, they become versatile meeting points where shared and individual learning coexist naturally.
For communicative group work, PARCS American Diner settings are used. The opposing Wing Sofas provide acoustic and visual shielding and blend harmoniously into the overall design with their warm hues. Together with CLUB Tables, they create functional meeting points for exchange, short meetings, or breaks. The colourful bFRIENDS accessories create an inviting area where personal items such as notebooks or pens can be neatly stored. They also serve as practical holders for mobile phones or tablets.
The TIMBA Table adds a warm, welcoming accent and encourages spontaneous conversations and brief exchanges. Its natural materiality brings a sense of lightness to the rooms. In the centre of the table, the rotating tray conceals the recessed compartment of the Power Bowl with its power and network connections, combining functionality with elegant design.
The PARCS Toguna Circle forms a striking hub for exchange and collaboration. The circular, half-height Soft Walls create a protected, communicative area ideal for informal meetings and short workshops. The upholstered, self-supporting structure blends harmoniously into the light-filled architecture and offers groups a comfortable place for focused conversations. Combined with CASUAL Tables, it becomes a versatile space for collaborative moments.
The workstations are equipped with the BASIC Workbench, and the T-Panel Curve provides pleasant shielding. This creates privacy without compromising the open character of the environment. Complemented by the KX storage system, clear and organized zones for long-term work and learning emerge.
For informal and brief meetings, the CASUAL Table High is used, whose Fenix surface with its pleasantly matt feel creates a modern and premium impression.
The lounge area, furnished with SETTLE, offers an inviting seating landscape with soft forms and high-quality upholstery. The high backrest provides comfortable shielding, while CASUAL Side Tables and C-side Tables offer flexible surface space for conversations or short breaks. Additionally, the colourful Pop-Up Stools provide extra, flexibly usable seating and add fresh accents.
